POINCIANA, FL – A 13-year-old boy was fatally struck by a car while riding his bicycle in Polk County last week, according to the Daily Ridge.
Deputies from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene in the area of Tiger Road and Dromedary Court in Poinciana Thursday evening. Investigators determined that the boy was riding his bicycle in the northbound lane of Tiger Road at about 7:35 p.m. when he was struck by a northbound Hyundai Elantra. The teen was knocked off the bike into the shoulder of the road, and was pronounced dead at the scene. No one else was injured.
Deputies said the driver of the Elantra, 25-year-old Victoria Ortiz of Kissimmee, was evaluated after the incident and showed no signs of impairment.
Tiger Road was shut down in both directions between Caribou Court and Dromedary Court for about four hours for the crash investigation.
