News: Driver arrested in St. Petersburg car accident that killed toddler and teen

ST. PETERSBURG, FL – A driver is facing criminal charges in connection with a fatal car accident in St. Petersburg last month, the Tampa Bay Times reports.

21-year-old Willy Lloyd was arrested Wednesday in the July 30 crash. St. Petersburg Police said he was driving a Nissan Rogue at high speed on Tyrone Boulevard when he tried to pass between two vehicles. Lloyd struck a sedan and lost control of the Rogue, which then crashed into a tree. He then allegedly fled from the scene of the crash.

Lloyd’s 1-year-old son and a 16-year-old passenger were thrown from the vehicle and pronounced dead at an area hospital. The charges against Lloyd include aggravated manslaughter of a child, two counts of vehicular homicide, and leaving the scene of a crash involving death.

The mother of the 1-year-old, 18-year-old Maliyah Waters, was previously arrested in the case. Waters, a front-seat passenger in the vehicle, was charged with aggravated manslaughter of a child and child abuse – aggravated battery – great bodily harm. Investigators said she had allowed children in her car to ride in the car without using seat belts.
