POLK COUNTY, FL – A trooper with Florida Highway Patrol and a semi-truck driver fatally struck a motorcyclist Monday, WFTS reports.
The trooper was assisting a construction crew who was closing off the area of the roadway for repairs when he pulled out in front of the 52-year-old male motorcyclist.
The motorcyclist was ejected off his bike when he collided with the right side of the police vehicle. He was then run over by the 25-year-old driver of a semi-truck.
First responders pronounced the victim dead at the scene of the accident around 7:30 p.m.
Officials with FHP say the investigation is ongoing.
It is unclear exactly where the accident happened on I-4.
