TAMPA, FL – State troopers say a driver was taken into custody following a highway accident in Hillsborough County that left a motorcyclist critically injured.
According to Fox 13 News, 21-year-old Marquez Davon Roberts was arrested for leaving the scene of a crash involving serious bodily injury.
The incident happened Sunday morning on Interstate 75 South. The Florida Highway Patrol said a 37-year-old man driving a motorcycle at a high rate of speed was trying to pass Roberts when he clipped the rear of Roberts’ car. The motorcyclist, a Pennsylvania man, was thrown from the bike and was transported to an area hospital.
Roberts stopped initially following the crash but then kept going south on I-75, troopers said. Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office deputies located his car later as it was being towed, then found Roberts at a home in Ruskin and arrested him.
Roberts was charged with first-degree murder in 2018 and was out on bond at the time of the accident, authorities said.
