TAMPA, FL – Police said a pedestrian trying to cross a Tampa street was struck and killed by a vehicle early Monday morning.
The Tampa Bay Times reports the victim was a 54-year-old man who was hit while trying to walk across West Hillsborough Avenue just east of Highland Avenue at about 5:10 a.m.
The man was struck by a Mazda CX-5 SUV that was heading east. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said the driver stayed at the scene and told investigators he did not see the man attempting to cross. No charges were expected in the case.
The victim’s name was not immediately released.
