
TAMPA, FL – A wrong-way crash on Interstate 275 claimed the life of a Tampa police officer early Tuesday morning, according to WTSP.
The victim, 45-year-old Jesse Madsen, was a highly decorated 16-year veteran of the Tampa Police Department. Police said a 25-year-old driver was speeding and going the wrong way on I-275 near Hillsborough Avenue and Sligh Avenue at about 1 a.m. His car slammed into Officer Madsen’s patrol car, and both drivers were killed.
Officer Madsen was a U.S. Marine combat veteran who leaves behind a wife and three children.
I-275 was shut down in both directions for the crash investigation before reopening later in the morning.
