SARASOTA, FL – A car crash in Lakewood Ranch Friday night left a teenager dead and three others injured, reports WTSP.
The Florida Highway Patrol said a 17-year-old driver lost control of a sedan while driving east on University Parkway near Lorraine Road at about 11:14 p.m. The car struck a culvert, went airborne, hit a utility pole and flipped before coming to rest on the property of a nearby assisted living community.
A 16-year-old Sarasota boy who was sitting in the front seat was killed in the crash. The driver, a boy from Apopka, Florida, and two backseat passengers were seriously injured. Authorities said the teens in the back seat, ages 15 and 16, were not wearing seat belts and were ejected.
The FHP is looking into the cause of the accident.
