
TAMPA, FL – A man is facing charges following a crash in Tampa Sunday morning that killed a passenger in his vehicle, Fox 13 reports.
The Florida Highway Patrol said 21-year-old James Curtis Whatley was speeding as he drove on State Road 574 near Interstate 75 at about 1 a.m. According to investigators, a pickup truck was making a turn onto an entrance ramp to I-75 when Whatley hit it.
Whatley’s vehicle went off the road and struck a guardrail before coming to rest. A 20-year-old female passenger was pronounced dead at the scene.
Whatley, of Tampa, was arrested on charges of DUI manslaughter and was taken to the Hillsborough County Jail.
