LAKE WALES, FL – One driver was killed and another injured when their pickup trucks collided in Lake Wales on Sunday afternoon, according to The Daily Ridge.
Emergency crews responded to the scene on Highway 27 near the intersection with Washington Avenue after the crash occurred at about 1:40 p.m. Investigators determined that 63-year-old Jerry Lee of Lake Wales was driving a Ford Explorer Sport Trac when he made a left turn from Highway 27 onto Washington Avenue. Lee’s vehicle turned into the path of a southbound Ford F-150 driven by 19-year-old Tristan Barber of Lake Wales.
The vehicles collided, causing the Ford F-150 to overturn while the Sport Trac struck a fence and caught fire. Lee was pulled from his vehicle and transported to an area hospital, but died from his injuries. Barber was seriously injured and taken to the same hospital.
Lanes were shut down on Highway 27 while the scene was being cleared before reopening over three hours later.
Anyone with information regarding the accident was asked to contact Lake Wales Police.
