CLEARWATER, FL – A young man was seriously injured when the SUV he was driving crashed on Landmark Drive in Clearwater early Monday morning.
According to Fox 13 News, the 19-year-old was behind the wheel of a Chevrolet Suburban when he lost control of the vehicle at about 1:45 a.m. The SUV went off the road, flipped, and landed on top of a fire hydrant.
The driver was reported to have suffered life-threatening injuries, and was rushed to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg. Officials said damage to the fire hydrant caused a hole to form and a large amount of water and dirt were sent into the roadway.
Most of the lanes between Meadow Hills Drive and Eagles Landing were shut down while crews were clearing away the wreckage and debris.
