LAKELAND, FL – Officials in Lakeland said a 19-year-old woman was killed when her car collided with a pickup truck on Friday evening.
In a news release, the city said police and first responders arrived at the scene in the area of East Memorial Boulevard and Interlachen Parkway shortly before 6:30 p.m. Investigators determined that Quianna Mongol of Lakeland was driving a Chevrolet Cobalt sedan when she lost control while trying to negotiate a curve and slid into the path of a Ford F-150 truck that was heading east on East Memoria Boulevard.
The truck collided with the passenger side of the sedan, and Mongol suffered fatal injuries. The driver of the pickup, 46-year-old Joseph Alberts II of Lakeland, was seriously injured and was taken to Lakeland Regional Hospital.
The roadway was closed for about four hours while the wreckage was cleared and investigators processed the scene. Officials said weather conditions appeared to have been a factor in the accident.
