PALM HARBOR, FL – State troopers say two drivers were injured when they were involved in a multi-vehicle collision in Palm Harbor on Friday morning.
According to The Suncoast News, the incident occurred on U.S. Highway 19 near the intersection with Fox Chase Boulevard at about 11:25 a.m. The Florida Highway Patrol said a man was driving a pickup truck south on U.S. 19 when he drifted onto the shoulder, over-corrected and ended up crossing into opposite traffic in the northbound lanes of the highway.
The pickup then struck the side of a northbound van and overturned. The impact sent the van into the left-center lane, where it struck a sedan. The driver of another vehicle, an SUV, tried to avoid the collision but hit the sedan on the right side.
The driver of the pickup truck, a 58-year-old man from Clearwater, was seriously injured in the crash. The driver of the van, a 56-year-old woman from Depew, New York, sustained minor injuries. The other two drivers involved were not hurt.
The northbound lanes of U.S. 19 were shut down for about three hours in the area of the wreck.
