LAKE WALES, FL – A pickup truck crash on State Road 60 in Polk County Tuesday night left two men dead, according to Fox 13 News.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office said 27-year-old Billy Burgess of Bartow was driving the Chevrolet pickup west at about 7:45 p.m. when he lost control while approaching a curve in the vicinity of Lake Wales Road near Lake Wales.
The truck drove through a median and entered the eastbound lanes before flipping several times and hitting a utility pole. Burgess and his passenger, 35-year-old Thomas Snipes III of Winter Haven, were thrown from the pickup and both were pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators said neither man was wearing a seat belt.
State Road 60 west was closed for about two hours for the crash investigation, while eastbound SR 60 was shut down for about four hours.
