
LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL – A 73-year-old bicyclist was hospitalized after being struck by a car in Lakewood Ranch, state troopers said.
WWSB reported the incident occurred in the area of Lakewood National Park and Arnie Loop Thursday morning. The Florida Highway Patrol said a woman on her bicycle rode into the path of a car making a right turn on Lakewood Parkway at about 9 a.m.. The 18-year-old driver had stopped at a stop sign before starting to making the turn, according to the FHP.
The bicyclist, a Bradenton resident, was listed in critical condition after being transported to an area hospital. The driver of the car was not hurt.
Troopers said the woman was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
