ST. PETERSBURG, FL – A bicyclist was struck and killed by an SUV early Sunday morning, according to a news release from the St. Petersburg Police Department.
37-year-old Chad R. Bennett was making a turn from 2nd Street North onto 1st Avenue North when he was hit by a 2014 Toyota Rav4 in the middle of the intersection at about 1:39 a.m. Bennett, a St. Petersburg resident, was pronounced dead after being taken to Bayfront Health.
Police said Bennett was going the wrong way on a one-way street when the accident occurred. and had no lights on his bicycle. The driver had the green light.
An investigation into the accident is continuing.
