HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL – A man has been indicted by a grand jury in connection with a crash that killed a Hillsborough County deputy on Jan. 11, reports WTSP.

28-year-old Travis Garrett of Brandon will be prosecuted for first-degree premeditated murder of a law enforcement officer for the incident that caused the death of Corporal Brian LaVigne.

Garrett was trying to flee after an incident at a Brandon apartment complex when authorities said he intentionally rammed LaVigne’s marked patrol cruiser.

LaVigne, 54, was taken to Tampa General where he died of his injuries. He had spent 30 years with the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office and was just one shift away from retirement when he died.
