LAKE HAMILTON, FL – A driver was arrested following a crash that killed a pedestrian in Polk County Sunday night, the Daily Ridge reported.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office identified the victim as 61-year-old Todd Lucas of Lakeland. Investigators said he was walking in the area of Kokomo Road and Hughes Road near Lake Hamilton shortly after 9:30 p.m. when he was struck by a Chevrolet Avalanche.
Lucas was declared dead at the scene after police and first responders arrived. The driver of the Avalanche, 24-year-old Felipe Resendiz, Jr. of Haines City, was not hurt and remained at the scene.
Authorities said Resendiz was driving with a revoked driver’s license and is designated as a Habitual Traffic Offender. He was arrested on a charge of Driving without a License-Crash Causing Death and taken to the Polk County Jail.
Kokomo Road was shut down in both directions for the crash investigation before reopening about three hours later.
