TAMPA, FL – A man is under arrest after authorities say he drove under the influence in a deadly crash in Tampa last week.
In a news release, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said 21-year-old Taylor Silva is charged with vehicular homicide and DUI manslaughter.
The accident happened Friday morning at Bearrs Avenue East and Bruce B. Downs Boulevard at about 2:30 a.m. According to the sheriff’s office, Silva was driving a Hyundai Sante Fe approaching a red light at the intersection when he drove onto a median, went through a red light, and hit a tree on the passenger’s side of the car.
The passenger was extricated by rescue crews and was pronounced dead after being taken to an area hospital. The victim’s identity was not immediately released.
A DUI investigation was conducted after detectives suspected Silva may have been impaired at the time, and he was subsequently arrested.
