SEFFNER, FL – State troopers say a speeding driver crashed into the parking lot of a Hillsborough County car dealership Sunday morning, killing one passenger in her vehicle and injuring two others.
Fox 13 News reports the driver was 24-year-old Jennifer Carvajal, who now faces several criminal charges including driving under the influence and reckless driving.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Carvajal was driving a Hyundai at speeds of up to 111 miles an hour on Interstate 4 when a sergeant tried to pull her over. As the sergeant overtook her, her car went onto a shoulder, hit an embankment, went over a fence and hit a truck at the Gator Ford dealership on the entrance ramp from I-4 to Mango Road in Seffner.
The three passengers in the Hyundai were hospitalized with serious injuries. One of them, a 22-year-old, was later pronounced dead. Carvajal, a Tampa resident, sustained minor injuries. She was reportedly on probation for DUI manslaughter from a deadly crash in 2014.
