CLEARWATER, FL – Police in Clearwater tweeted that they were on the scene of a crash on southbound U.S. 19 on Tuesday night.
A pickup truck slammed into a police SUV that was making a traffic stop on the side of the highway near Drew Street at about 7 p.m., police said. The driver of the truck was rushed to Morton Plant Hospital as a trauma alert, while the officer was not injured. The impact sent the SUV from the left emergency lane to the right emergency lane.
Southbound U.S. 19 was closed south of State Road 590 while the scene was being cleared.
