MANATEE COUNTY, FL – Police say a driver was killed when his car slammed into a pole on a highway in Manatee County.
WFLA reports the crash happened on Interstate 75 near the exit for State Road 64. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the 22-year-old driver was going north on I-75 when another motorist attempted to merge into his lane.
The second vehicle, driven by a 72-year-old man, clipped the first car on the right side, causing it crash into a median before hitting a steel pole.
The 22-year-old driver, a Brandon resident, was pronounced dead at Manatee Memorial Hospital. Authorities have not yet released his name.
The FHP is continuing to investigate the accident.
