TAMPA, FL – One man is in the hospital and another is in custody after a drunk driver slammed into a scooter in East Lake-Orient Park early this morning.
WFTS reports that the Florida Highway Patrol was called to eastbound SR-574 past Coconut Palm Drive at about 3 a.m. Thursday. Their initial investigation concluded that a Toyota Camry collided with a Wolf motor scooter, causing the scooter’s rider to fly off the vehicle and land in the roadway.
They took the Camry’s driver into custody after he refused to take a breathalyzer test. He has been identified as Devin Robert Oder, 31. Oder faces several criminal charges, including DUI Serious Injury and DUI 3rd in 10 Years.
The scooter’s rider, a 35-year-old man from Brandon, was taken to Tampa General Hospital in critical condition.
Investigations are ongoing.
