LAKELAND, FL – Police in Lakeland are investigating a pedestrian accident that claimed the life of an elderly woman last week, reports Fox 13 News.
The 75-year-old victim was struck Wednesday in the area of North Socrum Loop Road and Sandpiper’s Way at about 9:50 a.m. Investigators said she was trying to walk across North Socrum Loop Road when she was hit by a northbound SUV.
The pedestrian, identified as Shirley Worley, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the SUV was not hurt.
Police said Worley was walking in an area where there was no pedestrian crosswalk when the accident occurred. It was not believed that impairment or speed were contributing factors in the incident, which remains under investigation. The driver stayed at the scene, according to police.
