POINCIANA, FL – Authorities say the driver of a car was killed in a collision with a semi-truck in Polk County on Friday night.
According to Fox 13 News, 35-year-old Daniel Muniz of Poinciana was driving a Mercedes south on Marigold Avenue near Heron Road at about 7:20 p.m. when he crossed into the northbound lane. Muniz’s car collided with the front of an International Harvester semi-truck and trailer that was headed north on Marigold Avenue, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office said.
The crash caused the Mercedes to catch fire and Muniz was ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The truck driver, 53-year-old Rene Ortiz of Kissimmee, was not hurt.
Marigold Avenue was shut down in both directions for about six hours after the crash, which remains under investigation.
