WINTER HAVEN, FL – A man was killed when a suspected DUI driver crashed into a Marathon gas station early Sunday morning.
According to News Channel 8 , the driver of a Kia Optima was speeding on Westbound Havendale Boulevard when he lost control of the vehicle, jumped the curb, and drove into oncoming traffic at around 4:50 a.m. The Kia crashed into a Ford Mustang at the pumps of a Marathon gas station before crashing into the building proper and striking a customer inside.
The customer, identified as William Clabough, 52, became pinned under the vehicle.
Clabough was taken to Winter Haven Hospital, where he died. The driver was also taken to a local hospital for treatment of unknown injuries.
Local authorities are still investigating the crash, but reported impairment and speeding are likely the cause of the crash.
