LAKELAND, FL – Police in Lakeland are investigating a crash that killed a 53-year-old motorcyclist on Saturday afternoon, reports WTSP.
The victim, identified as Darry Townsend, was riding a Kawasaki motorcycle in the area of North Lincoln Avenue and 2nd Street when he lost control shortly after 4 p.m.
According to police, the motorcycle struck a curb and Townsend was thrown from the bike. He then crashed into a chain-link fence. Rescuers attempted life-saving measures at the scene but Townsend was pronounced dead after being transported to Lakeland Regional Health.
North Lincoln Avenue was shut down for about three hours while investigators were processing the scene of the crash.
