LAKELAND, FL – A female pedestrian died after she was struck on Reynolds Road Friday night by a driver who fled the scene.
According to CBS Tampa Bay , local authorities responded to a call of a possible deceased person found in a ditch north of Barrington Avenue on Saturday morning. The deceased was soon identified as 44-year-old Nichole Lynn Williams.
Williams was last seen at Reynolds Road Food Mart, where she made a purchase. It appears she was walking to her residence when she was struck from behind and killed.
Local authorities reported that she had been walking northbound with traffic at around 9 p.m. when she was hit. They also reported that their investigation shows she was likely hit by an older model SUV or pickup truck.
When someone flees the scene of the crime, they are doubling the injury they’ve already caused: by jeopardizing the victim’s chance of getting necessary medical and financial support.
