LUTZ, FL – A woman was killed when her car rear-ended a pickup truck at a red light in Hillsborough County Monday morning, state troopers said.
According to The Suncoast News, the accident happened near the intersection of U.S. 41 and Dale Mabry Highway in Lutz at about 4:40 a.m. The Florida Highway Patrol reported that a 71-year-old woman driving a sedan south on U.S. 41 did not stop or slow down, and crashed into the back of a pickup that was stopped at the red light near a Walmart store.
The impact sent the pickup onto the shoulder of the highway and then into a light pole, while the car came to rest in the intersection. The sedan driver, a Jacksonville resident, was taken to a nearby hospital and pronounced dead of her injuries. The driver of the other vehicle, a 34-year-old man from Port Richey, sustained minor injuries.
