ST. PETERSBURG, FL – A suspected drunk driver has been arrested following a wrong-way crash in St. Petersburg Sunday afternoon, according to IONTB.
The Florida Highway Patrol said 28-year-old Thiago Dos Santos was driving a Hyundai Sonata westbound in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 175 at about 3:30 p.m. As he approached the southbound exit ramp from Interstate 275, Dos Santos crashed nearly head-on into a vehicle driven by a 40-year-old St. Petersburg woman, investigators said.
The woman’s vehicle hit a barrier wall and then overturned. She sustained minor injuries and was taken to Bayfront Health.
The FHP said Dos Santos fled the scene on foot after the collision but was found later at a location in St. Petersburg. Dos Santos, of Bradenton, was arrested on multiple charges including DUI with injury, reckless driving, and leaving the scene of a crash with injury.
