SARASOTA, FL – Authorities say they have arrested the driver responsible for a fatal hit-and-run crash in Sarasota this past January.
According to WWSB, 29-year-old Leyonna Dunbar of Bradenton is facing criminal charges in connection with the January 22nd incident in which police say she struck and killed a 66-year-old pedestrian and then left the scene.
Police said footage from a red-light camera showed Dunbar driving in the area of U.S. 41 and University Parkway with damage to her car’s front right panel and windshield. That evidence helped detectives locate her and link her to the crash.
Police also used DNA swabs taken from the steering wheel of the vehicle involved and matched them to Dunbar’s DNA, Fox 13 News reported.
Dunbar was taken to the Sarasota County Jail where she was being held on several charges, including vehicular homicide and failure to stop in a crash involving death.
