POLK COUNTY, FL – Authorities say a woman was killed in a car accident after she fled the scene of a previous crash in Polk County Friday.
Fox 13 News reports 25-year-old Baylee Simpson of Mulberry was driving a Toyota Yaris on Imperial Lakes Boulevard in south Lakeland when she struck a Cadillac SUV, then took off at high speed. The Polk County Sheriff’s Office said Simpson missed a curve, drove onto grass, and ended up crashing into a tree.
Simpson was thrown from the vehicle, which went up in flames after the wreck. She was pronounced dead when first responders arrived.
Imperial Lakes was shut down to traffic in both directions for several hours for the crash investigation and cleanup.
