SARASOTA COUNTY, FL – The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a crash that killed a pregnant woman in Sarasota County Sunday morning, according to a report by WBBH.
The victim was identified as 28-year-old Cortney Kauffman, a mother of two from Port Charlotte.
State troopers said she was on her way to work on River Road near Englewood when a Honda headed south veered into the northbound lane and collided with her car head-on near Center Road at about 5:20 a.m.
Kauffman, a certified nursing assistant, was pronounced dead at the scene. The initial investigation indicated that the other driver, a 27-year-old North Port woman, was impaired at the time of the accident.
