TALLAHASSEE —
Florida is one step closer to a ban on texting while driving.
A committee has passed the latest proposal, which comes from Sen. Nancy Detert, R-Venice.
According to Bay News 9 ‘s partner paper, the Bradenton Herald , a companion bill will be filed next week.
Lawmakers have tried for several years without success to put a texting and driving ban in place.
Florida is just one of six states without a law against it.
Last year, a Bay News 9/Tampa Bay Times/Miami Herald poll found more than 70 percent of registered voters support a ban on texting and driving.
