INGLIS, FL – Five children were sent to the hospital yesterday afternoon after their school bus was hit by a semi-truck on US 19 north of Inglis.
Fox 13 reports that the collision took place near the Village Pines Mobile Community at about 4 p.m. yesterday, as the children were going home from school. The bus was stopped with its warning lights activated to let students out when the truck slammed into it from behind.
Five of the ten students on the bus were hurt, two seriously. The injured children were taken to Shands Hospital.
It is not clear why the 34-year-old man driving the truck did not stop. The Florida State Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate.
