PINELLAS COUNTY, FL – The Florida Highway Patrol said a woman was killed in a bicycle accident in Pinellas County last week.
According to the Tampa Free Press, the 63-year-old woman was riding a bicycle eastbound on US-19 Alt near Delaware Avenue Thursday at about 4:40 p.m. when she entered the path of a car going southbound.
The driver attempted to avoid her, but the vehicle’s passenger-side mirror hit the bicyclist and knocked her into the road. The bicycle rider, a Palm Harbor resident, was transported to a nearby hospital where she passed away from her injuries on Saturday.
State troopers said the woman was riding in a signalized crosswalk that was not activated at the time of the accident.
