SARASOTA COUNTY, FL – A bicyclist was critically injured when he was struck by a hit-and-run driver in Sarasota County Sunday morning, state troopers said.
WWSB reports the 48-year-old bicyclist was hit from behind by a red Hyundai sedan on Cattlemen Road near Brown Lane shortly before 11 a.m. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the driver of the Hyundai failed to stay in the proper lane, went off the road and over-corrected. The vehicle then entered the bicycle lane, where it struck the rear of the bike.
The bicycle rider, a Bradenton man, was hospitalized in critical condition.
The FHP said the vehicle involved was found after it was abandoned about two miles from the scene of the accident.
Anyone with information regarding the incident was asked to contact the Florida Highway Patrol.
