CLEARWATER, FL – A 19-year-old driver was charged with vehicular homicide after a fatal crash happened on Tuesday afternoon.

According to the Clearwater Police Department’s Twitter feed , the car struck a guardrail on Douglas Avenue near Sunset Point Road around 1:30 p.m. The collision killed the driver’s friend, who was a passenger in the car. No other vehicles were involved.

All lanes of Douglas Avenue were closed while local authorities cleaned up and investigated the crash.
Clearwater Police Department posted on Wednesday that speed was a factor in the crash. They also reported that the driver has been charged with vehicular homicide.
