MYAKKA CITY, FL – A driver was killed when he crashed into a guardrail in Manatee County early Saturday morning, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
According to WWSB, the 21-year-old man was driving an SUV on State Road 64 in Myakka City when he lost control of the vehicle near Verna Bethany Road shortly before 4:30 a.m. Investigators said the vehicle veered onto a shoulder of SR-64 and when the driver over-corrected, he collided with a guardrail on the north side of the road.
The SUV flipped over and the driver, a Myakka City resident, was ejected. He was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not wearing a seat belt, troopers said.
A 20-year-old passenger in the vehicle was taken to Tampa General Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition.
