WESLEY CHAPEL, FL – A Florida Highway Patrol officer was injured Monday night when a suspected drunk driver slammed into his patrol car, the Tampa Bay Times reports.
The 29-year-old driver, whose name has not yet been released, was driving south on Curley Road at about 11:50 p.m. when he ran a red light at State Road 54 and collided with the rear passenger side of a marked FHP vehicle inside the intersection. The force of the crash sent the patrol vehicle spinning into a concrete barrier.
Both drivers were taken to a local hospital with minor injuries. The at-fault driver has been charged with driving under the influence.
