PINELLAS COUNTY, FL – A Florida Department of Corrections sergeant died in a crash in Pinellas County early Monday morning, according to WTSP.

The victim was identified as 44-year-old Miguel Gonzales. The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office said he lost control while driving his Ford F-150 pickup truck on the Indian Rocks Bridge near East Gulf Boulevard at about 3:30 a.m. Investigators determined that the pickup slammed into a concrete barrier, then crashed into a metal railing, a tree and a set of signs.

Gonzales was thrown from the vehicle during the crash and was found on the curb near the overturned vehicle in the area of 5th Avenue N. and East Gulf Boulevard.

The sheriff’s office said the sergeant had been assigned to Sumter Correctional Institution in Bushnell, Florida.
