LAND O’ LAKES, FL – A man was charged with driving under the influence after police said he caused a wrong-way crash on a highway in Pasco County Friday night.

According to the Tampa Bay Times , the accident occurred on the Veterans Expressway south of State Road 52 at about 10:45 p.m.  The Florida Highway Patrol said 44-year-old Ricardo Ortiz Gomez of Clermont had been driving south for miles in the northbound lane of the highway. He collided nearly head-on with a car heading north at about mile marker 25.

Gomez and the other driver, a 62-year-old Crystal River man, sustained minor injuries in the accident. Gomez was arrested and taken to the Pasco County jail.
