HERNANDO COUNTY, FL – An SUV accident in Hernando County sent the vehicle into a waterway and left the driver critically injured, state troopers said.
The Suncoast News reports the incident happened Wednesday night in Weeki Wachee, where a 61-year-old man lost control of his SUV while driving on Darlene Street shortly after 9:30 p.m. The vehicle went through a yard, over a seawall, and into a waterway where it became submerged.
The driver, a Weeki Wachee resident, was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition. A passenger in the vehicle, a 59-year-old man from Brooksville, managed to escape from the wreck without being hurt. Both men were wearing their seat belts at the time.
