POLK COUNTY, FL – Authorities say a young man is in custody following a fatal pedestrian accident in Polk County Friday night, according to Fox 13 News.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office said 18-year-old Brock Case of Plant City turned himself in after the incident on State Road 60 in Mulberry.

Investigators said Case was behind the wheel of a Dodge truck when he hit a man walking in the road near Espo Drive at about 9:10 p.m. The victim, a 48-year-old Tampa resident, sustained fatal injuries.

According to sheriff’s deputies, Case pulled over at first, thinking he had hit a dog but then drove off and headed home without calling 911 or checking to find out what he had hit.

At about 3:30 a.m., authorities said Case went to a branch of the Polk County Sheriff’s Office in Lakeland and reported the incident. He was said to have been cooperative.

His truck, which deputies said sustained significant damage in the crash, was impounded as part of the investigation.

Case was charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving death and was lodged in the Polk County Jail.
