LAKELAND, FL – A woman was killed in a crash involving five vehicles in Polk County early Sunday morning, Fox 13 News reports.

The incident happened on Ellis Avenue in Lakeland at about 2:15 a.m. According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, a speeding Buick Century slammed into a Ford Focus with two people inside that was parked with its lights off.

The impact caused the Focus to hit an unoccupied Ford Dart parked in a nearby driveway. The Century continued on and struck a Chevrolet Malibu parked in a driveway, causing the Malibu to hit a Nissan Murano.

One of the two people sitting in the Ford Focus was partially ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. She was identified as 22-year-old Teresa Hammond. The person sitting with her, 23-year-old Marquist Westbrooks, sustained injuries that were not considered life-threatening and was taken to a local hospital.

The driver of the Buick Century, 54-year Lisa Breeding, sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene. The Polk County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the cause of the crash.
