HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL – A multi-vehicle collision in Hillsborough County left one person dead and five injured, according to the Tampa Bay Reporter.
The Florida Highway Patrol responded to the accident on Interstate 75 north Friday night shortly before 7:25 p.m.
An investigation determined that a 38-year-old man driving a pickup truck struck the rear of a dump truck that was trying to merge into his lane at about mile marker 252. The force of the crash sent the pickup into a trailer being towed by a motor home.
The pickup driver was pronounced dead at the scene while his four passengers sustained minor injuries. All were residents of Ruskin. Another of the drivers involved also suffered minor injuries.
A stretch of I-75 was shut down for over three hours while the scene was being cleared.
