PINELLAS PARK, FL – A pedestrian was rushed to the hospital after being struck by a vehicle on a street in Pinellas Park Wednesday morning.
According to CBS Tampa, the victim was identified as 24-year-old Jenna Hopkins of Trinity. Investigators said she was walking across 44th Street North at about 11:30 a.m. when she was hit by a Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 driven by 54-year-old Jeffery Fountain of Clearwater, who had failed to observe her. Hopkins was taken to an area hospital, where she was reported to be in critical condition.
Police said Fountain stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Impairment was not believed to have been a factor in the crash, authorities said.
Pinellas Park police shut down 44th Street North between 118th Avenue and 122nd Avenue for the investigation into the incident.
