ST. PETERSBURG, FL – Police in St. Petersburg have released the identity of a driver killed in a car crash that left a passenger injured Tuesday morning.
This is an update to a previous story.
Police say the victim was 58-year-old Claudette Powell. Investigators said she was driving a Lexus north on Pasadena Avenue when she lost control while trying to merge onto 66th Street shortly before 11 a.m.
The car struck a guardrail, crossed a median, crashed into a tree and then flipped. Powell was pronounced dead at an area hospital. The only passenger in the vehicle, an 85-year-old woman, was hospitalized with injuries that were said to be life-threatening.
Northbound lanes of 66th Street between Pasadena and 5th Avenue North were closed for the police investigation.
