RUSKIN, FL – State troopers say a fatal accident occurred in Hillsborough County Saturday evening after a driver attempted to pass another car.
The Tampa Bay Times reports the crash involved two cars that were headed south on U.S. 41 near Valroy Road in Ruskin at about 6:45 p.m.
The Florida Highway Patrol said one of the drivers overtook the other and was trying to pass when his car collided with the back of the other vehicle.
The second vehicle was knocked off the highway, collided with a power pole and overturned, leaving the car trapped under power lines that fell. The driver of that vehicle, a 38-year-old man from Tampa, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The other car also overturned from the impact, coming to rest in the southbound lanes of U.S. 41. That driver, a 41-year-old Tampa man, sustained minor injuries.
