PASCO COUNTY, FL – A man is under arrest in connection with a fatal hit-and-run accident in Pasco County earlier this year, the Tampa Bay Times reports.
The Florida Highway Patrol said the victim, a 27-year-old pedestrian, was fatally struck by a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck on Jan. 11 at about 12:50 a.m. At the time, the man was walking across Little Road near the intersection of Heritage Lake Boulevard. Investigators later found DNA evidence on the pickup linking it to the fatal incident, the FHP said.
The suspect, 62-year-old James Robert Altenhofen of New Port Richey, surrendered to state troopers on Monday. He was charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving a death and was booked into the Pasco County Jail.
When a pedestrian is injured or killed by a reckless driver who leaves the scene, family members are left searching for answers and justice.
