POLK COUNTY, FL – The Florida Highway Patrol says a man who was wanted for a deadly crash in Polk County 14 years ago has now been apprehended.
Fox 13 News reports the suspect, Brian Dale Andrews, was arrested by U.S. marshals on Wednesday in Mexico City following a tip that he had been spotted in the area.
The case dates back to June 30, 2007, when Andrews, who was 29 at the time, was involved in a two-car collision on U.S. 27 near County Line Road. State troopers said Andrews lost control of a Cadillac while driving north on the roadway and went into the southbound lanes, where his car struck a vehicle heading south. A couple in the other vehicle, 59-year-olds Danny and Patricia McCown, were both killed.
At the time of the wreck, investigators said Andrews’ blood alcohol content was nearly four times the legal limit.
Authorities said Andrews failed to appear for his arraignment after being arrested for the crash and fled to avoid being prosecuted. He was returned to Florida this week to face several charges, including DUI manslaughter and driving while license suspended involving death.
